My educated assumption what is happening is that after the printer goes into sleep mode, printing from the Mac does something that sends the correct signal to wake up the printer that Windows does not. It may be a chipset issue given that newer models with 5Ghz support meaning they have different radio chipsets are reported to NOT have this same problem. The other lesson learned for me is that these older 2. Have the same issue, but with MAC The Brother Printer communicates with my Mac for five minutes.
Afterward when I print, I get an error message saying looking for printer. WiFi indicator on printer is On, but it won't connect. I can always do an IPv6 reset on the printer, but that only buys me five minutes of print time. Then the printer goes right to sleep afterward and nothing wakes it up, except another IPv6 reset. Never had an issue prior. Beyond frustrated! Why can't Brother fix this! Brother printers cannot connect to 5GHz wifi, but if you ask your internet provider, they can split the combined network into two separate networks, a 2.
I spent far too long trying to figure this out, so I hope this saves someone the hassle. If you cannot connect your brother printer to the wifi, here is the steps to troubleshoot the brother printer issue. After following all these instructions, you will be able to connect your printer to the wifi. The issue is not connecting to the wifi, the issue is that once it is connected, it won't stay connected.
It says it is, but not a single computer in the house can print to it after it goes to sleep the first time. The only way to recover is to turn off the printer and turn it back on, then after a few seconds, the print job will start. I have tried every answer up here and none have fixed this issue. I've got the same problem. I've been turning the stupid machine off and then back on again in order to get it to print.
April 20 by Lisa Norton. Posted: July Although the printer was working normally after installation, it cannot successfully reconnect to a secure W-Fi network after coming out of sleep mode and is activated for use. The cause for the loss of connectivity has been isolated to an incompatibility issue with some Wi-Fi printers and how they maintain a secure Wi-Fi network connection to the Wi-Fi Gateway. Power cycling or resetting the Wi-Fi printer will usually solve the problem and needs to be performed each time the Wi-Fi printer awakes from sleep mode.
If the power cycle doesn't resolve the issue, use the following workaround. Brother is not compatible with Arris, Eero, Asus or Ubee routers. It's a "packet" issue. Our engineers and technical support team have thoroughly researched the situation, including consulting with both Arris and UBEE Interactive. We've found that due to the specifications of the Arris and UBEE Wireless Gateways, we do not have the ability to stabilize their wireless connection with the Brother device.

So far the only thing that seems to have fixed this for me 1 month and counting, since it would normally drop off the network every several days after router and printer reboot , new router had the option of bonding the current assigned IPv4 address to the printer and has not had an issue since.
The router keeps assigning the same IP address to same device as long as the device is getting IP traffic. When the printer is idle long enough, it decides to go to sleep. Since there's no traffic to the printer, DHCP decides the device has "gone away" and revokes the lease for the printer's IP address. Now there's no way to get IP traffic to the printer other than restarting the printer.
A wired network connection gets around this as does giving the printer a fixed IP address or bonding the dynamic address. Be nice if the printer manufacturers put this in their setup instructions.
November 1 by David Miller. Rob qwarlock. Brother support was not really any help and I was ready to throw my new printer out the window. I suspected that the wifi connection would drop silently even though it still shows connected and I refused to believe that my printer needs to be within 5 feet of my router mine is about 20 feet away through 3 walls.
All of the above ideas may help but were not sufficient to get my printer to stay connected. After hours of internet searching I discovered an obscure posting with an ASUS router setting that fixed the problem completely for me, and the printer connection has been stable for over a month now.
I can also print directly from my iPhone which never used to work either. As far as I can tell, there is no real issue with turning this setting off. Airtime fairness not compatible with Brother printers as far as I can tell. Happy printing! Keshav Vikash.
Shiva krsp I changed to 2. I have UnityMedia connection in Germany and after changing the router and upgrading the speed I started facing this issue. I did reset my printer few times without help. Scott Keck. No IPv6 on my mfc wifi printer. Brother - how about fixing this issue???? EASY answer! Another thing you can do is use an access point.
So if you have the energy to do it, you can actually wire an access point from your router to another place at the house, and you'll kind of get a second hotspot which will give you more range and connects you to the same network so you can share stuff between all your computers. Another idea, if you don't want to wire anything is to use range extender like this one. This range extender actually has two radio antennas in it, not just one, so it can use one of them to connect to the existing network, and then use the second one to create a new network that will connect to the existing network.
Another thing you can do is get a better wireless adapter for your computer. Your computer might be old, or it might have been cheap, and they people who built it just put a crappy wireless adapter in it. So you can buy a better wireless adapter, like this one for example, that has newer standards, more speed, and more range. Enter the login credentials, i.

The first thing I would do is really try to look for a better driver for your network card. You can't really do this on Macs, but on PCs if you go to the manufacturer of the laptop or whoever made your wireless adapter, you will find drivers there.
And these drivers are updated every few months. Sometimes newer drivers can definitely give you more speed and more range. The other thing you can do is change the channel of your wireless network. So if you go to the setup page of your wireless router, you will see that every router has a channel that it broadcasts on. And if you live in an area that has a lot of wireless networks around, some of them might be using the same channel that you are.
So it would be a good trick to go to the wireless setup page and try to change the channel to a different channel. Here is the link to Android tools software.
